About us

Our Project

The Baroon Dollar Project was founded by the Australian Institute for Community Currencies Inc . In August 2009  control of the project devolved to its independent business members and community partners -  who have formed the Blackall Range Economic Alliance. (BREA)

In 2009 the Australian Institute for Community Currencies Inc. (AICC) was formed from a community interest in fostering innovative solutions toward maintaining a high quality of life for all members of our community.

The objects of the AICC are to initiate, encourage and administer educational and practical programs to:
• promote and disseminate innovative models for regional economic self-reliance
• design, issue and maintain model community currencies and other schemes to raise funds for worthwhile community projects that promote local commerce and goodwill
• encourage local and regional economies to use complementary currency systems

Sustainable Maleny, the local Transition Town initiative, was one of the first local organisations to give support to the concept of the Baroon Dollar.
